Cardamom

Popularly known as ‘Queen of Spices’ as opposed to Black Pepper hailed as ‘King of Spice’, Cardamom, sometimes spelt as cardamom or cardamom, is a spice made from the seeds of several plants in the genera Elettaria and Amomum in the family Zingiberaceae. Both genera are native to the Indian subcontinent and Indonesia. The cardamom plant is a perennial herbaceous plant with a pseudostem and thick irregular shaped rhizomes. Dried fruit or cardamom pod is traded as a spice.




Clove

Prized for its distinct flavour and aroma, and also for its medicinal qualities, cloves are the immature buds of the evergreen tree Syzygium aromaticum , also known as Eugenia caryophyllus of the Myrtaceae family. A fully grown clove tree is about 15-20 metres tall and has smooth grey bark. Ceylon Clove is notably richer in oil than the clove varieties produced elsewhere in the world.




Black pepper

Pepper, the fruit of the plant Piper nigrum is native to the Indian state, Kerala. Even though Sri Lanka caters to merely 2.5% of the global demand for pepper, Ceylon Pepper is rich in Piperine, which gives Ceylon Pepper its distinct pungency and a premium price in the global market driven by its plenitude of the alkaloid.




Garcinia

Fennel Goraka fruit originated from mostly Sri Lanka having spread to the parts of the south Asia in areas such as India, Malaysia, Burma and Thailand. This fruit has also become popular in Florida and Australia. This tree is not only grown because of the fruits it bears but it has aesthetic value when planted in the compound.




Cinnamon

Ceylon Cinnamon (Cinamomum Zylanicum) a plant indigenous to Sri Lanka is a moderately size bushy ever green tree. Cinnamon grown and produced in Sri Lanka has acquired long standing reputation in the international market due to its unique, quality, colour, flavour and aroma. The name Ceylon Cinnamon derived from the former name of Sri Lanka is a very established geographical indication for Cinnamon.
